Mini Cow Calves

The tiniest mama delivered the tiniest heifer. And she may be tiny but she's fierce! Up and doing binkies within an hour!!!!

Surprise! There's another baby! I thought this little one was coming a bit later. Truth be told, I don't know if he was right on time or a little bit early. What I do know is he's super cute!

Look at this boy out of Ryder x Fireball! I was going to call him JD (like James Dean) but was overruled. So his real name is BBR Roderick. After I posted a less than glorious picture of this boy yesterday when he was barely minutes old, I just had to do right by him today. And wow!! I’m. Still. In. Love. He’s got the ears, the fluff, the color, the eyebrows… Fireball is a fiery redhead, and Ryder is a dun bull’s bull. This little one is full highland and can be HHCA-A registered. He will be evaluated as a potential herd sire.

It’s about time I finished my spring calf parade so next up is this lovely girl, BBR Maisie. She’s the most gorgeous shade of deep red. I can’t get over how deep and rich the color is. And those baby colors keep shifting and changing and have only gotten darker. She’s also growing in that signature thick coat she gets from her sire, Ryder. And her picture perfect conformation is nothing less than expected out of this Ryder x Lovey pairing.

Meet daughter of Cash x Marianne, BBR Jojo! If you could pick your mama, you’d pick Marianne. Chill, but still makes you clean behind your ears. This little heifer is part of my 2026 Highpark baby moo crew. TBH, I have a hard time telling apart, but I’m learning!

Jitterbug's name is a description of her big personality, which is outsized her tiny frame! She has a way of getting all the calves to run around and play with her. She's one-half the dynamic duo with Popcorn. She's not very photogenic, but in person you can feel her energy and it's so fun. Carter's calf will the be last of the season. We can't wait!

This girl is so sweet and soft looking, she just melts your heart. She had a bit of a struggle at the beginning and earned a trip into the house for some colostrum and a little extra attention. But she's up and doing binkies and perfect in every way!

Wilma started our fall 2026 calving season off with a bang. 2.5 weeks early. But no one told this little girl, and she's the welcoming committee!!

Here is daughter of Ryder x Maria, BBR Butterbean! Obviously we’re not going in order because this is the newest of the bunch, at only a week old, and only our second highland of the year. 😳 Last year this pairing produced an amazing silver bull, and this year they’ve knocked it out of the park with a lovely yellow heifer. The conformation and hair and temperament combo of Ryder and Maria is spectacular. Definitely chondro-, horned, and suspected yellow. Can be registered HHCA-A.

Yes, she always poses like this. She’s out of a fun pairing with Winter x Ryder. I had to double take when she was born because she fit right in the pattern with Cash’s calves, but it definitely was Ryder. Dixie’s mama is the neighborhood mobile-milk-bar. I think I’ve seen near every calf ask Auntie Winter for a snack, and she doesn’t refuse. I expect that Dixie would make a great homestead cow, small framed, easy keeper, great milk production.

I was shocked to see highpark colors out of this mama, who's always thrown belties. But this girl, Clover, is cute as a button, and I love her deep chest and straight back. She's growing into a lovely girl.

This little guy got his name because at barefly 19" at birth he was small as a "popcorn fart"! He's one-half of the dynamic duo with Jitterbug and is full of sass and spunk. To see him in action, check out this FaceBook post ​showing all the calves with the zoomies. Popcorn's mama is Wilma, and she has been the best mama to all the fall babies.

Oh. My. Goodness. She has All. The. Things. Hair, color, head shape, conformation, sweetness. Millie is keeping this cutie all to herself so I'm looking forward to getting up close with her.

This little girl has closed out our “spring” calving season. (I’m missing a few still, so I’ll go backwards and finish them up this week!) She’s clearly dun like her daddy, marked kinda like her mama, and cute as a button with that little spot on her head! 😍 She missed being born at the hottest point of the hottest day if the year because mama needed a little help. I’m thinking her name is Poe, from Man on Fire movie. 🔥 Thank goodness my son showed up after we’d been pulling for a while, and he and Shawn got her out while I literally was running to get the calf jack. Also thanks to Dr Heather at Colorado Ranch Vet for talking me off the ledge when I was anxious about timing having been too long for my comfort even for a heifer (it was near 4 hours that I first observed contractions until delivery).

Another heifer out of BBR Cash x Bossy! This girl is BBR Hazel and she’s so sweet looking. I was trying to catch this mommy and me moment from far away so I wouldn’t disturb it. I got the do-not-disturb part, but not the good pic part. haha! I’ll work on getting another portrait to do them both justice. Bossy is a lovely dun lady with thick body and gorgeous hair and beautifully sculpted horns. Shes the first ever highland we got so she’s the epinem of our ranch. And her little one? Cute silver (or dun) tipped girl. 83% highland. Beautiful eyelashes and very curious and friendly face. She has the look I like with thick body compared to leg height, blocky head and shorter muzzle. Her ears and muzzle look small because the hairs are so light!

This one is a mama's girl for sure, and always looks like she just got a face wash. Besides that, who doesn't love a dun beltie! Mama Lelo is our OG, and a queen around here.

The smallest mama, the largest calf. Wrenn is our micro mama, so this little bull calf, while small, wasn't tiny for her.

Sweet, a little shy, 100% cute. Bringing up the rear of the 2025 Spring calving season is little Kyle! (from South Park, get it? lol) He's a cutie patootie beltie, and here is is with his bestie pasture mate, Fideo. The two of them are the same size and love taking naps together! Kyle's mama is Lelo, our OG beltie mama. Sadly she lost her calf last year, so we were keeping all our fingers crossed for her this year, and she did so great!
